Implants

Implants – what they are

Essentially, an implant is a titanium screw inserted in place of a missing tooth inside the bone. As the surrounding bone fuses around the screw, it becomes the “root” for the missing tooth. To mimic the original tooth, a crown is affixed on top of the screw.

The most similar to an original tooth, implants are often the best solution as a replacement. We also use implants to replace several missing teeth or an entire dentition!

Admittedly, implants are a more costly procedure, but they provide a more natural look and feel – very close to the original! While sometimes we have to replace crowns due to wear and tear, the success rate of implants is very high, with some lasting an entire lifetime. We use implants to secure dentures or bridges firmly in place. Additionally, they can help prevent teeth from moving or drifting and are a great solution to restore bite pattern and the quality of your smile.

Our On-Staff Periodontist

It’s rare to find a clinic in downtown Toronto that offers an on-staff periodontist. We consider ourselves very fortunate to be among the very few to have one.

The staff periodontist for our offices is Dr. Michael Landzberg and you can find him here on select days of the week. Having Dr. Landzberg working with us makes our referral process just that much easier. Additionally, you will get an appointment for an implant much quicker – often within only a week of your initial consultation.

Those patients who need dental implants get referred to Dr. Landzberg by our dentists. Following the first consultation, he places the tooth implants. You then return to the dentist, who will place the crowns on the implants.
